Hospice develops self-care kits for VCH palliative patients

Every month, the VCH Home Care palliative team meets with new patients on the Coast, supporting their care needs and wellness. In 2021, Sunshine Coast Hospice partnered with nurses to hand-deliver "Here for You" comfort packages to each new patient. This gesture was developed to promote self-care and to remind patients that we are here for them as part of their supportive circle of care.

Initiatives like this are made possible through community donations. Each comfort packet was bundled by a Hospice volunteer and included:

  • A flax eye mask hand-sewn with love by Hospice volunteers and filled with lavender donated by the Sunshine Coast Lavender Farm

  • A pot of nurturing rose hand creme donated by Ferlow Botanicals

  • A packet of relaxing No.87 Rejuvenation Blend tea from Davis Bay Tea Co.

  • A small journal for reflection

  • A postcard that lists Hospice services available for the patient

We are so thankful to our supportive community of care that makes initiatives like this possible.
