Meditation with Marlena Blavin
Meditation is a practice of giving deep attention to what is happening in the present moment – what is happening in the mind and body of the observer and also what is going on in our surroundings. Through these sessions, participants practice being mindful of the body, the breath, and the experience of physical changes that might be occurring. Participants leave how to become more mindful of their responses – the feelings that arise in reaction to pleasure or discomfort – and watching them appear and disappear. Meditation reduces stress, anxiety and depression, improving self-compassion and the spiritual well-being of people experiencing life-limiting illness and their caregivers.
The Circle Wellness Program
August 2022 to January 2023
The Circle is our weekly free palliative wellness program offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Hospice House in Davis Bay. The Circle offers a selection of activities including meditation, gentle movement, art, music, legacy projects, educational workshops and more.
Each session includes a light lunch and refreshments. In addition to the scheduled activities, participants have access to support, information and resources, and the opportunity to socialize. Programming can also be made available virtually from home.
Doors open at 9:30, and volunteers are available until 12:30 for participants to be picked up.
To be eligible, participants need to have received a diagnosis of a life-limiting illness, and be independent with activities of daily living (or come to the program with assistance). You must pre-register with Hospice for The Circle program.
