Ivan Thompson

Interim Director

Ivan was born and raised in BC, except for a five-year hiatus in a small village in the middle of the Yukon in the mid to late 1950s. He graduated from UBC with a Commerce degree and then articled in Vancouver for his CA accountancy designation. He was in public practice for the next 33 years and raised a family in Vancouver, after which time he retired and moved to the Sunshine Coast.

While living in Sechelt, he served as a member of the Board of the Salmonid Enhancement Society (as well as being an accomplished tank scrubber) and served on the Board and Program Committee of the Elder College. He plays quite a bit of golf (poorly but enthusiastically), enjoys hiking and travels extensively, particularly to parts of the world less travelled.

He has a strong belief in the Hospice Society, the programs it delivers, and the essential role it can play in the last days of life for people living in the community.

Coast Hospice

Providing compassionate care to individuals facing end-of-life and their families since 1987. Whether at the hospital, in your home, or in one of the four temporary hospice rooms at Silverstone Care Centre, we are here to support you. We also offer programs and services for grief support, bereavement, and advance care planning, with the assistance of trained community volunteers. In partnership with Vancouver Coastal Health, we are working towards opening the Coast’s first dedicated residential hospice in 2026.
