Donna Shugar

Secretary

Donna Shugar became a hospice volunteer in 2015 after retiring from her role as an elected official on the Sunshine Coast Regional District Board. Interest in Hospice had been kindled many years earlier when she and her husband, Ken, received support from a hospice in California during the death of Ken’s mother. Donna found the hospice training to be a moving and profound personal experience and she has continued to volunteer with clients since joining the board in 2016.

Donna brings to the board a long history and many connections on the Sunshine Coast having worked in the arts and social services sectors both with non-profits and for government. In addition to her hospice work, she is an avid vegetable gardener and lover of literature. She says, "One of my best life decisions was moving to the Sunshine Coast from Montreal as a young adult. The caring and generous community that welcomed me way back in the 1970s and became my family of choice as I raised my own kids here, continues to bolster and support me to this day."
